How Allays Work

Quick answer

• Find allays in cages at pillager outposts and in woodland mansion jail cells.
• Give an allay an item and it collects matching items for you.
• Give one an Amethyst shard while it dances to a Jukebox to duplicate it.

Allays are small flying helpers that pick up items and bring them to you. They're great for collecting farm drops or sorting.

Where to find them

• Pillager outposts: in the dark oak cages next to the tower.
• Woodland mansions: in the jail cells.

They only spawn when those structures generate, so each one is worth rescuing. Watch out for pillagers.

Making it collect

1. Use an item on the allay. It holds it.
2. It finds dropped items that match, within 32 blocks of you.
3. It brings them back and drops them near you.

Use it with an empty hand to take the item back.

Note blocks

Play a Note block near the allay and it delivers to the note block instead of you, for 30 seconds. Each time the note block plays, the 30 seconds start again.

Duplicating allays

1. Play any music disc in a jukebox next to the allay. It starts dancing.
2. While it dances, give it an amethyst shard.
3. It splits into two allays.
