Bees and Honey Guide

A campfire under the hive is the whole secret.

A honey bottle surrounded by honeycomb, a beehive, a campfire and shears on a honeycomb block
Quick answer
  • Wait until the hive is full (honey level 5), with honey dripping out.
  • Put a Campfire under it first so the bees stay calm.
  • Use a Glass bottle for honey or Shears for 3 honeycomb.

Bees give you honey, honeycomb and faster growing crops. Here's how to farm them without a swarm chasing you.

Keep them calm

Harvesting a hive normally makes the bees inside angry. A lit campfire up to 5 blocks below the hive stops that.

Smoke pathThe smoke can pass through one solid block placed directly on the campfire, so you can hide it under a floor.

The hive resets to level 0 after each harvest. A Dispenser holding bottles or shears can harvest it automatically.

Moving a hive

Break a Bee nest or beehive with a Silk Touch tool and the bees stay inside. Without Silk Touch the bees come out angry.

Crafting your own hives

Craft a Beehive from planks and honeycomb to give your bees more homes. Plant flowers nearby, because bees make honey after visiting them.
