Campfire Guide

Free cooking, smoke signals and calm bees.

A campfire surrounded by a soul campfire, a hay bale, raw beef and honeycomb on spruce logs
Quick answer
  • Craft a Campfire from 3 sticks, 1 coal or charcoal and 3 logs.
  • It cooks 4 items at once, 30 seconds each, with no fuel.
  • A Hay bale underneath turns the smoke into a tall signal.

Campfires are a fuel free way to cook food, and they're useful for beekeeping too.

Cooking

Use raw food on the campfire to place it. Up to 4 items cook at once and pop off when done. It's slower than a furnace but never needs fuel.

Smoke signals

Place a hay bale under the campfire and the smoke rises much higher. Handy for finding your way back to base.

Bees

A campfire under a beehive or bee nest makes the bees calm. You can then take honey or honeycomb without angering them. The campfire can be up to 5 blocks below the hive.

Soul campfire

Made with soul sand or soul soil instead of coal. It gives less light (10), hurts more if you stand on it, and scares piglins away.

Putting it outUse a shovel or a water bucket. Light it again with flint and steel.
Breaking itWithout Silk Touch, a campfire drops charcoal instead of itself.
