Chiseled Bookshelf Guide

Holds 6 books and doubles as a secret switch.

A chiseled bookshelf surrounded by an enchanted book, a book, a comparator and a sticky piston
Quick answer
  • Craft a Chiseled bookshelf from 6 planks and 3 wooden slabs.
  • It holds 6 books, including enchanted books.
  • It does not boost an enchanting table. Use normal bookshelves for that.

Chiseled bookshelves show the books you put in them. They're a tidy way to store enchanted books, and a classic secret door switch.

Storing books

  • Click a slot with a book to put it in.
  • Click a filled slot to take that book out.
  • It takes books, enchanted books, book and quills and written books.

Secret doors

A comparator behind a chiseled bookshelf gives a signal from 1 to 6, matching the last slot used. Wire one slot to sticky pistons and taking that book out opens your door.

HoppersHoppers can move books in and out, which helps with book sorting systems.

Enchanting

For a level 30 enchanting table, you still need 15 normal Bookshelf blocks. Chiseled ones don't count.

Cheat sheet

  • 6 planks + 3 slabs
  • 6 books each
  • Comparator signal 1 to 6
  • No enchanting boost
