How to Use a Crafter

A crafting table that crafts by itself.

A crafter surrounded by a crafting table, a dropper, redstone and a hopper on stone bricks
Quick answer
  • A Crafter crafts one item every time it gets a redstone signal.
  • Fill it with Hopper blocks and click empty slots to lock them.
  • Added in Java 1.21 and Bedrock 1.21.0.

The crafter lets you automate crafting, like turning iron ingots into blocks or making bread from a wheat farm.

Making one

Craft it from iron ingots, a Crafting table, redstone dust and a Dropper.

Setting the recipe

  1. Open the crafter. It has a 3×3 grid like a crafting table.
  2. Click any slot the recipe doesn't use to lock it. Locked slots stay empty.
  3. Feed ingredients in with hoppers. They fill the open slots in order.
Lock firstIf you don't lock the unused slots, hoppers put ingredients in them and the recipe won't work.

Powering it

Each redstone pulse crafts one item. The result shoots out of the front, into a container in front of it or onto the ground.

Craft when fullPut a comparator on the crafter. Its signal counts filled and locked slots, so you can make it craft only when all 9 are ready.

Good uses

  • Iron ingots into Block of iron for compact storage
  • Wheat into bread
  • Bones into bone meal

Cheat sheet

  • One craft per redstone pulse
  • Lock unused slots
  • Hoppers in, output from the front
  • Comparator counts full slots
