- A creeper explodes 1.5 seconds after it gets within 3 blocks of you.
- Back away, hit it back with a sprint attack, or block with a
Shield. - Lightning turns it into a charged creeper, which makes mobs drop their heads.
Creepers wreck more builds than any other mob. A few simple habits stop them.
How the fuse works
When a creeper gets close, it hisses and swells for 1.5 seconds, then explodes. If you move about 7 blocks away, it stops.
- Hear a hiss? Step back straight away.
- Or sprint-hit it to knock it back out of range.
- Or raise a shield to block the blast completely.
Cats scare them
Creepers run away from cats and ocelots within about 6 blocks. A cat sitting by your door keeps them away.
Charged creepers
If lightning strikes within 4 blocks of a creeper, it becomes charged and glows blue. Its explosion is twice as strong.
Mob headsWhen a charged creeper's explosion kills a mob, that mob drops its head. On Java, it's one head per explosion.
What creepers drop
- 0 to 2
Gunpowder each, for TNT and rockets. - A music disc if a skeleton kills it.
Light your baseCreepers spawn in the dark. Light up everything around your base so they can't spawn nearby.
