- Craft a
Daylight detector from 3 glass, 3 nether quartz and 3 wooden slabs. - It gives a stronger signal the brighter the sky is, from 0 to 15.
- Use it to invert it so it powers things at night instead.
Daylight detectors let your builds react to the time of day. The classic use is lamps that switch on at night.
Crafting
Glass across the top, nether quartz across the middle and wooden slabs across the bottom.
How the signal works
- The signal follows sunlight, so it's strongest at noon.
- Rain and thunder make it weaker.
- It needs to see the sky to work.
Night lights
- Place the detector where it can see the sky.
- Use it to invert it. The top turns blue.
- Put a
Redstone lamp next to it or wire it up. The lamp turns on when it gets dark.
Low profileThe detector is only a slab tall, so it hides well in floors and rooftops.
