Deepslate Guide

The dark stone below Y 0. Slower to mine, great to build with.

Deepslate with cobbled deepslate, deepslate bricks, deepslate tiles and deepslate diamond ore
Quick answer
  • Deepslate starts to replace stone around Y 8 and is everywhere below Y 0.
  • It takes about twice as long to mine as stone.
  • Mining it drops Cobbled deepslate, which works like cobblestone for tools and furnaces.

Deepslate is the dark stone deep underground. It's slower to dig, but it's also one of the best building blocks.

Ore DistributionFind the best Y level for diamonds, iron, gold, redstone, copper and every ore

Ores

Ores in deepslate look darker but drop the same things. Deepslate diamond ore is where most diamonds are, around Y -59.

Mining

  • It's slower than stone, so use an Efficiency pickaxe.
  • Silk Touch gets the smooth deepslate block.
  • Reinforced deepslate in ancient cities can't be broken in Survival.
