- Mending can't come from an enchanting table. Get it from librarian villagers, fishing or chest loot.
- Every 1 XP you pick up repairs 2 durability.
- It can't go on the same bow as Infinity.
Mending is the enchantment that keeps your best gear alive forever. Here's how to get it without luck.
How Mending works
When you pick up XP, damaged Mending items in your hands or armour slots soak it up first.
If several items need repairs, each XP orb picks one at random. Once nothing needs fixing, XP goes to your level bar again.
The librarian trick
Librarians can sell Mending books at any level. This is the fastest way to get one.
- Find a villager with no job, or a librarian you've never traded with.
- Place a
Lectern next to it so it becomes a librarian. - Check its trades. No Mending? Break the lectern and place it again to reroll the trades.
- Once it offers Mending, trade with it once to lock it in.
Other ways to get it
- Fishing: enchanted books are one of the treasure catches.
- Chest loot: treasure chests in structures can hold Mending books.
- Raids: on Bedrock, raid mobs can drop it.
Putting it on your gear
Combine the book with your item in an
Anvil. Add Mending early, because anvil costs go up each time you use one on the same item.
