- Dig a 2×2 hole, 1 block deep.
- Pour a
Water bucket into two opposite corners. - All 4 blocks become sources. Take water out forever.
An infinite water source near your base saves you walking to a lake every time you need water.
The 2×2 method
- Dig a 2×2 hole, one block deep, with solid blocks underneath.
- Pour water into one corner.
- Pour water into the opposite corner.
- The other two blocks fill in as sources. Scoop from any of them.
3×1 works tooDig a line of 3 and pour water at each end. The middle block refills every time you take it.
How it works
A new water source forms when flowing water sits next to two or more source blocks, on top of a solid block or another source. That's why it needs the bottom to be solid.
In the Nether
Water instantly disappears in the Nether, so this doesn't work there. A
Cauldron is the only way to hold water in the Nether.
Cheat sheet
- 2×2 hole, water in opposite corners
- Or 3 in a row, water at both ends
