Step 1: get netherite ingots
- Mine ancient debris in the Nether, best around Y 16. You need a diamond pickaxe.
- Smelt each debris into
netherite scrap. - Craft 4 scrap + 4 gold ingots into 1 netherite ingot.

Step 2: get the template

Bastions are dangerousThey're full of piglins and piglin brutes. Wear at least one piece of gold armour so regular piglins don't attack, but brutes attack anyway.
Step 3: copy the template
Craft the template with 7 diamonds and 1 netherrack to get 2 templates. You need one template for every piece you upgrade.

Step 4: upgrade
In a smithing table, put in the template, then your diamond item, then the netherite ingot. Enchantments carry over.
Enchant firstEnchant the diamond version and then upgrade it. You keep the enchantments, so you're not risking netherite on a bad roll.
Why it's worth it
- Doesn't burn in fire or lava, and floats on lava when dropped.
- More durability and knockback resistance than diamond.
Lava-proof dropsDie in lava on a normal world and diamond gear burns, but netherite floats on top, ready to grab.
