Silverfish and Infested Blocks

Kill them in one hit, or the whole wall wakes up.

A silverfish spawn egg surrounded by stone bricks, cobblestone, a diamond sword and an eye of ender on cracked stone bricks
Quick answer
  • Silverfish hide inside infested blocks that look like stone, cobblestone or stone bricks.
  • They're found in strongholds, mountains, igloo basements and mansions.
  • Kill them in one hit. If you only hurt one, more break out.

Silverfish are tiny, but they come in swarms. They're the reason stronghold walls suddenly come alive.

Infested blocks

Infested blocks look exactly like normal stone, deepslate, cobblestone and Stone bricks. Break one and a silverfish usually comes out.

  • Strongholds, with a silverfish spawner in the End portal room.
  • Caves under mountains and windswept hills.
  • Igloo basements and woodland mansion rooms.
Silk TouchMining infested blocks with Silk Touch stops silverfish coming out.

Fighting them

4hearts of health
1 hitis the goal

When a silverfish gets hurt but survives, it calls other silverfish out of nearby blocks. Use a strong sword so each one dies in a single hit.

Don't punch themWeak hits are the worst thing you can do. Every hit that doesn't kill wakes more up.

The portal room

The silverfish spawner sits on the stairs in the End portal room. Break it or place torches around it before you fill the portal.
