Sniffer Guide

Hatch an egg and it digs up plants nobody else has.

A sniffer egg surrounded by torchflower seeds, a pitcher pod, a torchflower and a brush on moss
Quick answer
  • Get a Sniffer egg by brushing suspicious sand in warm ocean ruins.
  • It hatches in 10 minutes on a Moss block, or 20 on anything else.
  • Sniffers dig up Torchflower seeds and Pitcher pod items.

Sniffers are huge ancient mobs that never spawn on their own. You have to find an egg and hatch it yourself.

Getting an egg

  1. Find a warm ocean ruin, in warm or lukewarm oceans.
  2. Look for suspicious sand and use a Brush on it.
  3. Keep brushing until a sniffer egg pops out. It's one of several possible finds.

Hatching

10 minto hatch on moss
20 minon any other block

Place the egg and leave it. It cracks a few times, then a baby sniffer (a snifflet) comes out.

Digging for seeds

Adult sniffers sniff around and dig in grass, dirt, moss, mud and podzol. Each dig finds a torchflower seed or a pitcher pod, with equal odds.

After finding seeds, a sniffer waits 8 minutes before digging again.

Give it spaceBuild a big pen with grass or moss on the floor. Sniffers won't dig on mycelium.

Breeding more

Feed torchflower seeds to two adult sniffers. One drops a new egg, and they need 5 minutes before breeding again.

Rare decorationsTorchflowers and pitcher plants only come from sniffers, so they're great for showing off in builds.
