- Copper slowly turns green through 4 stages: copper, exposed, weathered, oxidized.
- Stop it with a
honeycomb (waxing). - Go back one stage with an axe, or let lightning wipe it clean.
Copper changes colour on its own, which makes it great for builds that look old and weathered. Here's how to control it.
The 4 stages
| Stage | Look |
|---|---|
| Shiny orange | |
| Brown with green patches | |
| Mostly teal-green | |
| Fully green |
Oxidation is random and slow. Blocks change on their own over time when they're placed in the world.
Freeze it with wax
Use a
honeycomb on any copper block to wax it. Waxed copper stays at its current stage forever.
Getting honeycombUse shears on a full bee nest or beehive. Put a campfire underneath first so the bees stay calm.
Undo it with an axe
- On waxed copper: the axe removes the wax.
- On unwaxed copper: the axe scrapes it back one stage.
Shield in your off-hand?Scraping doesn't work while you're holding a shield in your off-hand. Swap it out first.
Lightning resets it
A lightning strike fully cleans unwaxed copper back to shiny orange, and randomly cleans nearby copper too. A lightning rod on a copper roof does this during storms.
Building with copper
- 1 copper block = 9 ingots.
- Use a
stonecutter to make cut copper, slabs and stairs. It gives you 4 times more than normal. - Mix stages on purpose for a gradient from orange to green.
Cheat sheet
- Copper → exposed → weathered → oxidized
- Honeycomb = freeze it
- Axe = remove wax or go back one stage
- Lightning = full reset
