Crying obsidian looks like obsidian with purple tears. It glows a little and is mainly used for respawn anchors.

Nether Portal CalculatorConvert Minecraft Overworld coordinates to Nether coordinates and back, so your portals link to the right place every time

Where to find it

  • Ruined portals in the Overworld and Nether.
  • Bastion remnants.
  • Piglin bartering: throw a gold ingot to a piglin.

Mining it

Like obsidian, it needs a diamond or netherite pickaxe and takes a while to break.

Uses

6 crying obsidian and 3 glowstone make a respawn anchor, which sets your spawn in the Nether. It also gives off light level 10.

Not for portalsA ruined portal with crying obsidian in its frame won't light. Swap those blocks for normal obsidian.
