Frogs and Froglights

Three frogs, three biomes, three froglights.

A pearlescent froglight surrounded by ochre and verdant froglights, a slimeball and a bucket of tadpole on mud
Quick answer
  • Frogs live in swamps and mangrove swamps. Breed them with Slimeball items.
  • The biome a tadpole grows up in decides which frog it becomes.
  • Frogs that eat a small magma cube drop a froglight.

Froglights are bright light blocks in three colours. The only way to get them is with frogs.

Breeding frogs

  1. Feed slimeballs to two frogs.
  2. One lays frogspawn in water, which hatches in 3 to 10 minutes.
  3. Catch tadpoles with a water bucket. They grow into frogs in about 20 minutes.

The three frogs

TemperateSwamps and most biomesOchre
WarmWarm biomes like mangrove swampsPearlescent
ColdCold biomesVerdant
Move the tadpolesCarry tadpoles in a bucket to a cold or warm biome and let them grow up there to get the other frog types.

Getting froglights

Bring your frogs to the Nether, or lure small magma cubes to them. When a frog eats a small magma cube, it drops a froglight. Bigger cubes split into smaller ones first.

Slimes tooFrogs also eat small slimes, and each one always drops a slimeball.

Cheat sheet

  • Breed frogs with slimeballs
  • Biome sets the frog type
  • Temperate = ochre, warm = pearlescent, cold = verdant
  • Feed them small magma cubes
