Glazed Terracotta Guide

16 colours, endless patterns, and pistons can't pull it.

A furnace in front of a wall of blue, orange, purple and cyan glazed terracotta, with terracotta, clay, blue dye and an emerald
Quick answer
  • Smelt dyed terracotta to get glazed terracotta. Plain terracotta doesn't work.
  • Its pattern rotates depending on which way you face when you place it.
  • Pistons can push it, but sticky pistons can't pull it.

Glazed terracotta has bold patterns that make great floors and walls. There's one design for each of the 16 colours.

Making patterns

The pattern turns depending on the direction you face when you place each block. Place four of the same colour in a 2×2 square, turning as you go, and many colours join up into one big design.
