Lush Caves Guide

Spot an azalea tree, dig down, find the prettiest cave in the game.

A flowering azalea surrounded by glow berries, a big dripleaf, a spore blossom and a bucket of axolotl on moss
Quick answer
  • Look for azalea trees on the surface. A lush cave is underneath.
  • Inside: moss, Glow berries, dripleaf and spore blossoms.
  • Lush caves are the only place axolotls spawn.

Lush caves are green, glowing underground gardens. They're great for building blocks and a beautiful place for a base.

Finding one

  1. Look for an Azalea tree, a small tree with pink-flowered leaves.
  2. Follow the rooted dirt and hanging roots down from it.
  3. Dig straight down and you'll reach the lush cave.

What's inside

  • Moss block floors and ceilings, with moss carpet and azalea bushes.
  • Cave vines with glow berries for light and food.
  • Spore blossom flowers dropping green particles.
  • Clay pools with dripleaf, axolotls, glow squid and tropical fish.
Moss spreadsUse bone meal on moss and it spreads to stone and dirt around it, plus grows plants. Great for making moss in bulk.

Dripleaf

Big dripleaf plants are leaves you can stand on, but they tip over after a moment. They're fun parkour in builds.

Axolotls

Catch axolotls from the water pools with a water bucket. They're the only mob that spawns just in lush caves.

Monsters still spawnLush caves are pretty, but hostile mobs can still spawn in the dark parts. Light it up before building.

Cheat sheet

  • Azalea tree on top = lush cave below
  • Moss, glow berries, dripleaf, spore blossoms
  • Only place axolotls spawn
  • Bone meal moss to spread it
