Magma Cube Guide

Bouncy, fireproof and full of magma cream.

Magma cream surrounded by a magma block, a potion, a magma cube spawn egg and a pearlescent froglight on netherrack
Quick answer
  • Magma cubes are most common in basalt deltas.
  • Medium and large cubes drop Magma cream.
  • They're immune to fire and lava, and they split when they die.

Magma cubes are the Nether's slimes. They bounce at you, split apart and drop the main ingredient for fire resistance potions.

Where they spawn

  • Basalt deltas, the easiest place to find them.
  • Nether fortresses and Nether wastes.
  • Spawners in bastion treasure rooms.

How they fight

Like slimes, big cubes split into smaller ones when killed, all the way down to tiny ones. They can't be hurt by fire or lava, and they don't take fall damage.

Magma cream uses

Brew magma cream into an awkward potion to make a Potion of Fire Resistance, the best potion for Nether trips. You can also craft magma cream into Magma block items.

Froglights

When a frog eats a small magma cube, it drops a froglight. Bring frogs to a basalt delta to farm all three colours.
