How to Ride a Strider

The only way to cross a lava lake without building a bridge.

A warped fungus on a stick surrounded by a saddle, warped fungus, string and a strider spawn egg on netherrack
Quick answer
  • Striders walk on lava in the Nether without getting hurt.
  • Put a Saddle on one and steer it with a Warped fungus on a stick.
  • Breed them with Warped fungus.

Nether lava lakes are huge. A strider lets you ride straight across them instead of building a long bridge.

Riding one

  1. Find a strider walking on a Nether lava lake.
  2. Put a saddle on it and get on.
  3. Hold a warped fungus on a stick to steer. Use it for a speed boost.
~4.2blocks per second on lava
~9.1blocks per second boosted

Each boost uses 1 durability. When the stick runs out, it turns back into a fishing rod.

Watch for jockeysSome adult striders spawn with a zombified piglin riding them. Kill the rider before you saddle up.

Breeding

Feed warped fungus to two adult striders to breed them. Out of lava they shiver, turn purple and move slowly, so keep them near lava.

Drops

Striders drop 2 to 5 String, which is handy in the Nether where spiders don't spawn.

Safe crossingYou can't take lava damage while riding, but don't jump off mid-lake. Ride all the way to land.
